Nightcore anyone?

So as someone who spends way too much time on the Internet, I come across a lot of uniquque and interesting things. One of these places I come across these things is YouTube. And one of these things I discover in these places I visit is a style of music called Nightcore. If you can't appreciate Techno I can imagine you already hating this. Anyways to define it simply Nightcore in it's songs typically featurea fairly sped-up melody, a very fast fast rhythmic beat, and a much higher than normal pitch. A lot of it is more or less not performed by major artists. It is almost always, more or less a remixed version of an already popular songs. I know some of you are cringing, but hey you never know, just maybe try the random sampling I am giving below.

What you really want to do is find the ones that do more than just plug the song into sound editing softare and speed it up. Because anyone can do that by downloading free sound editing software called audacity. There is good stuff out there where more serious audio mixers actually create good trance/techno songs this way.

  1. Didn't really dig Last Resort, sounded too much like something Skrillex would sample and, as with a lot of Mr. Moore's music, it sacrificed composition for what felt like building up to a bunch of bass drops.

The other two, though, were entertaining. As you mentioned, there are millions of amateur (and below amateur) attempts at this effect throughout Youtube, but when done carefully it adds a fun amount of energy and intensity to otherwise sort of slow or brooding songs.

I think this style of music is already slowly making its way into the American mainstream. Again, for better or for worse, Skrillex seems to enjoy sampling sped-up vocals and instrumentals. I can't help but connect this genre with those effects, so maybe this generation growing up with those samples will have more of an appreciation for Nightcore.

  2. I like the Linkin Park one. It sounds chipmumked.

  3. I also appreciate the anime girls there. Is the first one from Gunslinger Girl?

    1. Ummm the anime girls in the videos are sort of typical imagery you see in them, which is honestly something I could have talked about in the origional blog. I've only seen the first episode of gunslinger girl but I don't think that is her. The character is actually much younger so I don't think that picture is her. Often times it is either a screenshot from a show or a completley origional drawing not based off of any popular anime series. The middle one for the Disturbia remix for example, is an image of a currently popular character, Miku Hatsune.... who actually isnt portrayed in any anime or manga series but is associated with music in the style of anime/manga.
